We have had the privilege of 10 years working alongside working class young people; we know they have exceptional insight and offer ground-breaking solutions for a fairer society. Our young people are closest to the issues and tensions that exist in those disconnected working class communities. Their lived experience makes them true experts in some of the most complex issues British society faces.
Young people bring new ways of looking at challenges. At RECLAIM we stand alongside these young pioneers, as experienced adults willing to listen and experiment – enabling new ideas to flourish.
The RECLAIM Institute is a new area of work for RECLAIM, focused on developing, testing and launching youth-led projects and campaigns with high potential to achieve transformative social change for working class communities. We will partner with government, business, media and education to ensure that our programmes have resonance way beyond their origins on council estates or pressurised communities.
We are developing the Institute in partnership with young people, staff, and other stakeholders, and will publicly launch in spring 2017. We build the RECLAIM Institute from the experience and success of current programmes, including Educating All, which was developed and delivered by young people; and Fairer Futures, guided by an adult staff member but with a group of committed young people from across the UK.
RECLAIM young people have answers to some of the global pressures we all face. By encouraging communities to open themselves up to honest, authentic dialogue, to listen to each other and work together, we can find effective solutions to the UK's most pressing social issues.
Fairer Futures is RECLAIM’s first national project, bringing together young people from working class communities, employers and organisations across the UK. The project aims to bring about long term social change by diversifying the background of national decision makers, leaders and influential figures.Read more
